"The USBP [United States Border Patrol] is headquartered in Washington, DC, and has 20 district or sector offices throughout the country. Over the past two decades, border enforcement has increasingly become a priority, with the Border Enforcement budget increasing sevenfold from 1980 to 1995 and then more than tripling from 1995 to 2003.

Accompanying the budget increase, USBP manpower has more than doubled over the past decade. At the end of FY2005, the USBP had 11,268 agents on board."
